Shoes of Genesis
Do these shoes, probably impossible to run in, represent an evolution in function, or a regression? The extension and repetition seen in Sato’s works challenge the meaning and image of the objects in question. These “shoes of Genesis” are the wings of Nike the goddess of victory; running and kicking balls on ground not yet solidified, jumping higher than anyone.
About Yoshihiko SatoYoshihiko Sato
Born 1968, raised in Saitama Prefecture.
MFA 1993 in Sculpture from Tokyo University of the Arts.
Makes unusual sculptures by projecting his own ideas onto the design elements of products, in arrangements that amplify/propagate their forms.
Winner of the Best Work Award at the 2002 Kirin Art Awards, and Semi-Grand Prize at the 6th Spiral Independent Creators Festival in 2005.
