Kyotaro Hakamata
Multiplication - Nirvana 1/2
Something there but at the same time not?
One of multiple variations on an image made by the artist of the Buddha entering nirvana. Hakamata took identical parts and experimented with combining them in different ways into works such as Multiplication – Nirvana 3, which stretches the basic form by three, plus others that mix up the order of the pieces. Multiplication – Nirvana 1/2 splits the fluorescent green and pink acrylic panels comprising the basic form to create two pieces.
