From the side these two fellows are extremely thin, only half the thickness one would expect. Parts sliced parallel to the wall were split into odd- and even-numbered pieces, and used to recompose the original single form into two. Once sliced, these flat pieces also lose any sense of back or front, the artist flipping over each alternate piece and layering these to form another figure, with right and left also reversed. Hakamata says the shape of the sculptures was surprisingly fluid and unstable during the fabrication process.
