This landscape reminiscent of an ink painting of China’s Huangshan mountains is in fact from the Japanese peak Yatsugatake. Mori photographed the rocks there while climbing. For this work resembling a byobu screen, the artist has trimmed each shot of the rocky terrain to the same height, with the six pieces forming a single mountain ridge. The contrast between large printed sheets on aluminum backing, and the concrete skeleton wall setting, makes for a novel touch. The work in its entirety consists of 18 panels, which together form a majestic scene.
