Higashionna contends that no other nation favors the glaring white glow of the fluorescent tube as much as Japan. His series of chandeliers making ample and intriguing use of circular fluorescent tubes, launched in 2001, was produced as a requital, both homage and anti-homage, to his native land’s love affair with fluorescent lamps, something he finds at once fascinating and disturbing.
