"mirror"
During my ten-month stay in Germany and travels through various countries, I encountered numerous cultures and landscapes different from Japan's. Each time I encountered a foreign cultural difference, my own way of thinking and values became vividly apparent, giving me the sensation of looking into a mirror and re-examining myself. The title “mirror” embodies my desire to express the ‘self’ and the “relationship with the world” reflected through these experiences.

Atsuko Yamashita
Atsuko Yamashita was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1993 and graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, Oil Painting Major in 2018.
Drawing on childhood experiences, I create parallel worlds through painting—using oil and Japanese art materials with a soft, drawing-like brushstroke—consistently depicting “uninterrupted happiness.”
